TCS BaNCS Implementation Assignment

Our client is a leading provider of fund services and investment operations’ solutions to issuers, financial institutions and institutional investors. They are currently operating network custody and clearing systems for the US global and local markets through TCS BaNCS product, which is a globally accepted and implemented custody product offered by an Indian based organisation Tata Consultancy Services.

 

Assignment Objectives

DBFS was engaged to plan and execute the test programme required to upgrade the operations for TCS BaNCS. The main aim of the project was to transfer/migrate the operations from the old TCS BaNCS version V6 to the latest version V10 thus involving significant testing activities before the go-live in March 2015.

Testing expertise involved TCS BaNCS knowledge of various modules, SWIFT messages, custody business and markets.

Liaising with various teams such as internal client teams based in France and the USA, the TCS team based in France, and also with The Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC) and The Federal Reserve System (FED) depository teams on a day-to-day basis.

 

DBFS Engagement and Deliverables

The DBFS team was split into two major functional areas ensuring it covered the most important aspects of the business functions. The areas that DBFS helped to test and analyse included:

  • ¨Trade settlements testing: Major and multiple user acceptance testing (UAT) cycles comprising end-to-end validation of various types of trade settlements cycles for local and global US custody markets.
  • ¨Corporate actions testing: Major and multiple UAT cycles comprising end-to end-testing of various types of corporate actions cycles for local and global US custody markets.
  • ¨Entire testing cycle management executed with the help of HP Quality Centre.
  • ¨Responsible for testing the change requests for various complex functionalities.
  • ¨Responsible for analysing various functionalities in accordance with the US market and TCS BaNCS’s new version V10 based on their prior experience of the custody business product and thereafter documenting their findings in the form of functional specifications, training documents and test cases.
  • ¨Responsible for designing the test plan and test cases for various change requests to be implemented and tested in the new BaNCS version with the help of solution documents available from the client and the vendor.

 

Project Outcomes

Despite a potentially complex project involving multiple stakeholders and an extremely tight delivery deadline, DBFS managed to fulfil all the project deliverables and managed testing, analysis and to publish reports, results and required documents within the project deadlines. Feedback from all parties was extremely positive in relation to the quality, breadth of coverage and the level of commitment and professionalism provided by the DBFS experts.
